Everything You Need To Know About Chemical Peels

Just about everyone can benefit from a chemical peel—and the experience is easier than you’d ever imagine.

If you’ve never had a chemical peel, you might imagine it would make your skin look like beef carpaccio a la Samantha in the old “Sex and the City” series. But the truth is, chemical peels have come a long way in the last 15 years. Now, thanks to buffering ingredients and customizable treatments, there’s minimal downtime. Even though you’re peeling, exfoliating, and flaking…you can still get out and about and do your thing.  And regular chemical peels can be used to treat just about anything. Fine lines, crepiness, acne, scarring, discoloration—those are the main issues. You’ll see an improvement in skin texture and smoothness. I like to treat with peels because they can simultaneously treat so many things with little downtime. You might come in for your acne concern, but you’ll be getting anti-aging benefits from the peels too!

After one PCA Skin peel you’ll see some improvement, but then it’s exponential.

Chemical Peels For Acne:  Chemical peels might not be the first treatment you think of for acne, but they can definitely help. While studies haven’t been able to prove exactly why peels work for acne, doctors believe it has to do with rapidly exfoliating the skin to essentially remove surface acne and speed up cell turnover. They can also temporarily reduce oil production and calm inflammation. PCA SKIN Sensi Peel is a superficial peel that can be used for visible breakouts while the deeper Jessner Peels are necessary to treat acne scarring.

Chemical Peels For Anti-Aging:  By resurfacing the skin, chemical peels can treat fine lines, sun damage, large pores, and uneven texture—all visible signs of aging. Even if you’ve spent a lifetime in the sun you’ll warm up to chemical peels because my experience is that clients see the benefits pretty quickly.

Chemical Peels for Discoloration: When clients arrive at Esthetics by Roxanne for their first treatment to address discoloration they typically believe that their dark patches are a result of sun exposure, and while this is often the case, PIH (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation) is routinely a side-effect of  laser, waxing, microdermabrasion and other procedures that cause inflammation.  Since inflammation is a major catalyst in irregular skin tone (melanin is produced to safeguard the skin against damage which results in an uneven “tanning”), PIH results.  The good news is that this type of discoloration is easier to fade out, as compared to melasma which is systemic and nearly impossible to treat.

Even if your goal is as simple as having significantly glowier skin, a series of chemical peels, customized just for you, can really make a difference.  At Esthetics by Roxanne we love PCA Skin for our peel treatments, both Jessner and TCA.  Make an appointment today and let’s get started!  415.655.9769 studio/cell/text or email to roxannechesnutt@gmail.com
