Choosing the Best Vitamin C For Skin

Taking one extra step each day in your daily skincare routine with the application of a topical vitamin C product can make a huge difference in the overall appearance and health of your skin.

Second only to your own estrogen, topical vitamin C is a potent antioxidant working at a cellular level to increase collagen synthesis and thicken the dermis resulting in the softening of fine lines and wrinkles.  And although it is not a sunblock, topical vitamin C causes an anti-inflammatory response effectively reducing hyperpigmentation, redness and puffiness after skin exposure.

A little history…vitamin C was rendered useless for anti-aging due to its very large molecule.  Then, in 1997 L-ascorbic acid was developed at Duke University. SkinCeuticals bought the patent and cornered the topical vitamin C market.

Here’s the catch! Although L-ascorbic acid was a scientific breakthrough, there was a problem.  It has a very short shelf life and becomes unstable when exposed to heat, air or light, rendering it ineffective.  Therefore, it was necessary to emphasize the need to use the product completely within three months.

Fast forward to 2020. Scientists developed a stable topical vitamin C called ethyl ascorbic acid.  This next generation is highly stable, non-irritating and has a superior ability to preserve cells, reverse damage, boost collagen synthesis and even skin tone.

Bottomline, not all topical vitamin C formulations are created equal.  This is where you don’t want to try and save money or help out your local spa by selecting their salon-blend.  It’s just too risky due to elements like air and light which impact stabilization.

At Esthetics by Roxanne we choose DOCTOR BABOR PRO vitamin C Concentrate. For more information about stable ethyl ascorbic topical vitamin C or any of our Babor or PCA Skin offerings, get in touch:  415.655.9769 studio/cell/text or email to roxannechesnutt@gmail.com
